Public Water Supply District No. 12 of Jefferson County, Missouri was formed on January 24, 1968 to provide safe, clean Drinking water to the residents of rural Southeast Jefferson County.
We are proud to have been named "Drinking Water System of the Year" in 2014 by the Missouri Rural Water Association.
Where Your Water Comes From
Water to supply our District comes from three deep wells located throughout the area. The depth of these wells range from 910 ft. to 1,140 ft. and each well has a back-up power generator to ensure an uninterrupted supply of water during a power failure. The District has the ability to pump almost two million gallons of water per day and the capacity to store a total of almost one million gallons of fresh water in five different storage tanks. Our distribution system has over 65 miles of water main ranging from 2" to 12" in diameter. We are a gravity-fed system with three different pressure gradients. Each of the three systems can function independently or serve as a back-up to the others in the rare case of a well failure.
PWSD No. 12 is in compliance with the rules and regulations set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. In accordance with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources testing requirements, water samples are taken from designated locations in the District each month and sent to the Missouri Health Laboratory for testing.
District Administration
Administration of the District is accomplished by an elected five-member Board of Directors, a Manager, Assistant Manager and Water System Operators. Each Director is elected for a term of three years and represents a sub-district, or certain geographical area, within the District.
Good to Know: Most full-time personnel are certified by the State of Missouri as Water Distribution System Professionals (including office staff) and regularly attend required training to keep abreast of changes and new technologies in the industry.
A member of our certified Operations staff is always on-call for any emergencies that may arise when our office is closed.
